Customer since 2003
I am writing to share my personal experience with your G5 EASE seating system and your EASE overlay mattress.
In 2003, at the age of 49, I was involved in a serious car crash in which I sustained injury to 3 cervical discs, which resulted in my becoming a quadriplegic, with sensation at C6 and motor function at C7 levels. Prior to my accident, I had worked for many years as a Registered Nurse in several acute care hospitals, primarily working with surgical patients in the Recovery Room. So, even as I was in the trauma room I was acutely aware of the many challenges I would be facing from that day forward.
While I was in a well-respected acute rehab center, which had a dedicated SCI unit, I developed a small pressure sore at the base of my coccyx while using a J2 cushion. In order for it to heal I had to limit my time in the wheelchair and use a very noisy and annoying air mattress while in bed. Fortunately for me, it healed fairly quickly.
After 4 1/2 months in several hospitals I was discharged to home in a manual wheelchair for three months, awaiting the arrival of my power wheelchair. My sister Therese, also a Registered Nurse, had a client who used the EASE seating system with great success and so she purchased one for me. The J2 cushion has been sitting in a box ever since! I have been sitting on the EASE cushion for over three years now, do not have to weight shift at all and have had no problems with skin breakdown on my buttocks.
I have been in my wheelchair for up to 14 hours without any problems at all. I also sleep on the EASE overlay mattress, on my back, all night, relieving any need for a caregiver to reposition me during the night. The pump for the mattress is extremely quiet too.
Since my accident, I have learned to drive a modified van, participated in planning my son's wedding, volunteered my time on my local Disability Commission and helped design and orchestrate the planning and move to a brand-new, accessible condominium. I have maintained my RN license and hope to get back to work in 2007.
I would (and have) highly recommend both the EASE seating system and mattress overlay to any person who is at risk for skin breakdown and pressure sores.
In closing, I would also like to add that anytime I have a question or need a repair, the service is personal, prompt and phenomenal.
